Aerobic respiration occurs in the presence of oxygen, producing more energy (ATP) and releasing carbon dioxide and water. Anaerobic respiration occurs without oxygen, yielding less energy and producing lactic acid (in animals) or ethanol and carbon dioxide (in yeast).
