A form of inheritance where certain traits, like the effects of maternal behaviors or environmental factors, are passed from the mother to the offspring, affecting phenotypic traits.
Transmitted through the egg cytoplasm which produce a phenotypic effect in the progeny. E.g. the effect of a mother who smokes on the weight of her unborn baby.
